[The world is dark when the memory begins. You almost feel like you're floating away... but then you can hear a man's desperate, pleading voice.]
"Please come back to me... please..."
[All of a sudden, you begin to cough, and a person helps you to sit up. When you open your eyes, you're in a concrete corridor, with water covering the floor from a nearby burst pipe. What looks like chunks of ice cover the pipe and a nearby door, which has been hacked apart. As you gasp for breath, the man helping you up looks frantic. He's dressed in a tuxedo, minus the jacket, and you're wearing an evening dress.]
"You're okay... you're okay..."
[There's obvious relief in his voice, but you look around, confused for a moment.]
"I'm really cold..." "Me, too."
[The man smiles at that astute observation, rubbing your shoulders, rubbing warmth back into your body, and you pause for a moment before you realize:]
"You saved me." "It was the nice thing. ... I used an axe. A big axe. I really wish you'd been conscious because it was the coolest thing I've ever done-"
[All of a sudden, you lean in to silence his babbling with a kiss. The man looks pleased, but as you part, his expression falls, his voice dropping to almost a whisper.]
"I don't know what I would have done if I'd lost you."
[Your voice trembles slightly as you reply.]
"I love you. I have for some time now." [You can feel yourself smiling shyly.] "Just wanted you to know..."
[The man looks confused and starts to speak, so you just lean in and kiss him again, and he puts his hand on the back of your head, letting your foreheads touch before he pulls back, and he smiles and stares lovingly into your face before the memory fades.]
[Your view is dark, except for the shimmering lights of a swimming pool and the flashing lights of ambulances and cop cars behind you. There's indistinct talking behind you, but you're hearing none of it, sitting on a bench near the pool and staring off into space, your hands clasped in front of you.
Then, you hear footsteps, and you see a woman- beautiful, tall, shoulder-length brown hair- approaching. She sits next to you, offers you the coffee cup she's holding, and you accept it.]
"Here you go. "Thanks."
[You and the woman fall silent, looking out over the pool again.]
"...Tell me something, Castle. Why did he let you live?"
[A pause as you look over at her, your voice becoming thicker with emotion as you speak.]
"As punishment. Make me pay for ruining his plan. Now he's gonna kill again all because I couldn't stop him. ... I feel so..."
[You can't speak more, but the woman understands, looks over at you and puts a hand on your knee, her expression sympathetic.]
"I know the feeling." "I know you do."
[You reach out, cover her hand with your own, and the two of you resume staring out over the water, and the memory fades.]
