Age: 41
History: http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Rodney_McKay
Personality: The first two words that come to mind when describing Rodney McKay are "insufferable genius". Rodney is incredibly intelligent, being one of the world's leading astrophysicists and an expert on several alien technologies, and this in turn makes him very arrogant. He can be abrasive, condescending, and hard to work with because of this. Rodney has no problem with being dismissive and a downright prick toward his co-workers and underlings, especially if he thinks their ideas are stupid or that they're holding him back. His services are indispensible to the Atlantis team, and he loves to take the opportunity to remind them of this fact. Rodney can also be very competitive with the few people who are his intellectual equal. In addition, he tends to ramble and overexplain his various schemes, ideas, and devices, which often leads to frustration and impatience among his colleagues, and can have trouble simplifying things so that others may understand them (without being condescending in the process).

Aside from his massive intelligence isolating him somewhat from others, Rodney has poor social skills in general. He can be awkward and stumble over his words when in non-work settings, especially around women he likes. His competitiveness and lack of tact led to him becoming estranged from the only family he has left- his sister Jeannie- and he was slow to try and repair their relationship. Rodney is also something of a glutton and a hypochondriac, often complaining on long journeys about how hungry he is, claiming he needs to eat a lot due to being hypoglycemic, and worrying that every normal malady he contracts could lead to his death- if he is even truly sick in the first place. After being trapped in a spaceship underwater and nearly drowning, he developed a phobia of being in tight spaces.

Rodney is a paradox, however- though often seen and presented as weak and cowardly, he does have positive qualities, and his greatest shows of strength come at his moments of greatest weakness. He can be quite vulnerable, gentle and sympathetic when it seems like all hope has been lost, when the team has just overcome a great hurdle, or when one of his friends is feeling down. Rodney has managed to forge strong friendships with the members of his team and has a good rapport with most of the other Atlantis expedition members, in no small part because his genius has saved their lives on more than one occasion. His moments of cowardice are tempered by a willingness to put his life on the line and face down seemingly-impossible tasks. He will never, ever back down when faced with a problem, no matter how insurmountable it seems, and will work past the point of exhaustion to find a solution. Once he and his colleagues get into a groove and start making headway on a problem, he actually works quite well with others and is more open to and accepting of their ideas. Rodney can keep a cool head under pressure and admits himself that his best work comes when he's got an urgent deadline to meet.

Rodney is also immensely loyal to his teammates, considering them to be his family, always does his best to fix his mistakes, and carries a lot of guilt when he faces a problem he can't fix. He will put his neck on the line for them and knows how to stall for time and manipulate their enemies into keeping himself and the others alive until help arrives. He has trouble dealing with loss because he cares about his friends so much, and worries when he believes he is going to die and make them experience the pain of losing him. Though a scientist, he has no hesitation in taking up arms when the need arises, and is capable of defending himself in a fight- or at least holding off the enemy long enough to run away and get help.

Powers/Special Abilities: N/A
River Power: Water manipulation, akin to waterbending (http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Waterbending), though advanced techniques would take him quite a while to get to, and I'd say Bloodbending would be a "never".

Reason for Character Choice: Confession- Rodney annoyed the crap out of me for the first season or so of Stargate Atlantis. Then, suddenly, instead of being annoyed by him I found myself cooing over him when he was a woobie, laughing at and with him, and somewhere along the line he grew on me. stupid sexy Rodney. I've played him before and want to play him again because he's a lot of fun.
Additional Information: Anything else we should know? You can leave this blank if no.
